How does a centerless grinder achieve grinding?

Release time:2023-09-01

Centerless grinding machine is an efficient grinding equipment that is widely used in many industrial applications. This equipment utilizes the principle of rubber or metal wheels for workpiece grinding, and completes the grinding process by rotating on the outer surface of the workpiece. Due to the fact that the grinding process does not require clamping the center, it can handle workpieces with different lengths, irregular diameters, and complex shapes. Meanwhile, due to the fact that the grinding pressure is only concentrated on the surface of the workpiece, the deformation of the workpiece body is avoided, thus achieving high-precision grinding results. It can handle workpieces with complex shapes and is mainly used in fields such as automobiles, aviation, engineering machinery, electronics, medical devices, etc.

The machine tool itself has high accuracy and is not affected by external forces during processing, so the processed parts have high stability and can meet work requirements. By using fully automatic CNC technology and program control of the CNC system, it is possible to achieve single setting, continuous multi production, reduce manual operations, and improve production efficiency. The accuracy can reach below 0.001mm, which can meet the processing requirements of high-precision parts.

The grinding of a centerless grinder is carried out by manipulating the grinding rod. The structure of the grinding rod is different from that of a regular grinding machine. It consists of two external cylinders nested in spherical sliding sleeves of different sizes and connected to the workpiece through the grinding machine spindle. The spherical sliding sleeve of the grinding rod automatically adjusts it to the center position of the workpiece, and then gradually moves the grinding rod to grind the surface of the workpiece. Due to the fact that the workpiece does not need to be clamped centrally, it can prevent problems such as breakage, deformation, and deformation of the workpiece.

The movement of the grinding rod is controlled by a small signal between the grinding machine spindle and the workpiece. These signals detect the center position of the workpiece and adjust the position and direction of the grinding rod based on this position. This grinding method results in higher grinding accuracy and can meet finer machining requirements.

The grinding methods of centerless grinding machines can be divided into two categories, namely feed grinding and backward grinding. Feed grinding refers to the process where the workpiece is moved and the grinding wheel and workpiece remain relatively stationary, and the workpiece is ground at the grinding wheel. Backward grinding is achieved by generating relative motion between the grinding wheel and the workpiece after the workpiece stops moving.
